FAQ's - Microneedling

Welcome to our Microneedling FAQ page. Here, we will provide you with answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about microneedling, a popular skincare treatment. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to our customer support team at support@skinbay.co.nz.

Is microneedling painful?

The level of discomfort you experience will depend on the needle length you choose to use, your personal tolerance as well as whether you apply a numbing cream. The shorter the needle length, the less discomfort you will experience.

Do I need to use a numbing cream?

If you have a low pain tolerance, you may consider applying a topical numbing cream to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.

Where do I purchase numbing cream from?

Leedfrost cream is a topical anaesthetic cream that is available to purchase here from Skinbay.  Please follow the enclosed directions on how to apply Leedfrost.

How often should I Microneedle?

The frequency of microneedling depends on various factors, including your skin type, the severity of your concerns, and the depth that you are needling, it is recommended to space out microneedling sessions every 4-6 weeks to allow your skin to heal and regenerate properly.

What areas of the body can I microneedle?

You can micro needle anywhere on the body. Popular areas include:
  • Face & neck/décolletage
  • Chest
  • Stomach
  • Hips & thighs
  • Backs of hands

Can I microneedle my neck?

Yes, micro needling is great to use on the neck to help with fine lines and loose skin.

As the skin on the neck and décolletage is very delicate, you may like to use a lower needle length on this area, and you may also like to use a numbing cream if your skin is sensitive, or if you are new to microneedling.

Is there any downtime afterwards?

Generally no, but you may experience facial redness for 12-48 hours after treatment. Most people return to normal activities immediately afterwards.

Will microneedling help with anti-aging concerns?

Yes! Microneedling is a revolutionary, scientifically backed skincare treatment. For improvement in the appearance of fine lines, loose skin from a loss of elasticity, sun damage, hyper-pigmentation, dull skin and your overall complexion, micro-needling is highly effective.

Which is the best microneedling kit?

All our our microneedling kits are great home microneedling pens, so choosing the device for you ultimately comes down to personal preference, budget, packaging appearance, and functionality. Read our blog on which is the best device.

How many times can I use each cartridge?

Microneedling cartridges are designed for single use only and must be disposed of safely.

Our dr pen utilizes advanced technology to ensure a safe and hygienic experience each time. It is recommended to use a new cartridge for each use for optimal hygiene, giving you the confidence to use it securely and without risk of infection

Can I use cartridges from a different model on my device?

No, cartridges are not interchangeable you must only use cartridges compatible with that specific device.

How do I clean the pen?

You may use 70% alcohol or swab to sanitise the pen before and after use.

Can I reuse the cartridges after microneedling if I sterilize them?

No, they are single use cartridges.

If I’m needling my face and immediately after my neck/décolletage do I need to change cartridges?

One cartridge should be fine with this shallow depth.

Is it okay for me to share my microneedling pen with another member of my household?

Yes, but never cartridges.

Can I use my other serums to microneedle directly into the skin rather than using high molecular weight hyaluronic acid?

No only use approved serums for microneedling such as High Molecular Weight Hyaluronic acid is the only serum. Or Dermaheal HSR or SB serums.

Other serums may contain fragrance or active ingredients which can cause irritation

Are there any ingredients/serums that I should NOT use immediately after Microneedling?

I personally avoid AHAs, BHAs (irritating).

Try to avoid fragrance and citrus peel oils. Anything that normally irritates your skin slightly will irritate it much more with needling

How soon after filler/muscle relaxant injections can I have a treatment?

There is no clinical evidence that micro needling treatments interfere with any injectables, however it is important to let your injector know that you're planning on micro needling in the future. Your injector will be able to advice on when to schedule your treatment appropriately.
